At OWA, we believe that your child deserves to swim in a safe, fun, and encouraging environment. Our indoor group classes provide year-round lessons for students aged 6 months and up, designed to build confidence, safety, and swim skills while in and around water. Here, you'll be able to check out each individual level and the key skills covered within each category.
Age Group Levels

• Focus on Safety & Water Acclimation •
Age group levels build confidence and comfortability in the water, creating a strong foundation for learning basic swim skills.
Students will focus on:
Water Safety
Floats on back
Pool rules and etiquette
Developing Movement
Flutter Kicks
Windmill Arms
Arrows on front
Elementary Backstroke arms (3's & 4's)
Age Range: 6 months to 5 years (Our littlest swimmers!)
Beginner Levels
Key Skills Covered
• Focus on Safety & Propulsion •
Our beginner levels build the foundation for all of our upper levels, primarily focusing on techniques to move through the water on front and back, safely floating on front and back, and getting comfortable with submersion.
Students will focus on:
Water Safety
Floats on back
Pool rules and etiquette
Developing Movement
Flutter Kicks
Windmill Arms
Rollover Breathing
Arrows on front
Elementary Backstroke arms
Age Range: 5 years to 12 years; swimmer with little to no prior experience
Intermediate Levels
Key Skills Covered
• Focus on Stroke Development •
Our intermediate levels focus on refining technique with freestyle and introducing new deepwater skills. With increased confidence and independence, swimmers refine techniques and build endurance for greater proficiency in both freestyle and backstroke.
Students will focus on:
Developing Freestyle Stroke
Introduced to side breathing technique
Refining arm and kick technique
Building endurance for increased distance
Developing Movement
Improving backstroke kicks – whip and flutter kicks
Increased floating times for rest and safety
Building endurance and confidence
New Skills This Level
Diving
Rhythmic bilateral side breathing
Backstroke (Elementary and Competitive)
Treading water
Endurance (Swimming multiple laps)
Safety
Focus on deep end water safety skills and increasing swim distance
Age Range: Typically 6 years and promoted from Beginner 2/Intermediate 1 (Can vary for students who began swimming earlier & remained consistent with swim lessons)
Advanced Levels
Key Skills Covered
• Master All Four Strokes •
Our advanced levels round out the intial freestyle and backstroke techniques taught in previous levels and introduce the most challenging swim skills and strokes all while continuing to build speed and endurance.
Students will focus on:
Breastroke
Learn the whip kick
Build confidence with proper stroke cadence
Master underwater streamline technique
Butterfly Stroke
Learn the dolphin kick
Develop a comfortable butterfly rhythm
Strength training skills to master this stroke
